Detoxing for Beginners


I often get clients asking what the best detox program is. They are usually referring to what brand of drink or pill will work the best. My advice is always the same. The best way you can detox in a safe way is with real whole food and hydration. No magic pills, drinks, or teas are necessary. The body is pretty amazing and if we give it the appropriate nutrition to function it will detox on it's own.


I recommend starting by eating enough food. If your body doesn't have fuel it needs to run all of it's functions it will slow some processes to focus on the necessary ones. Meal and snack timing and quantity of food is important.


Eat well balanced meals and snacks. Make sure you are getting quality carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Include fiber rich foods as well as foods that are rich in antioxidants, prebiotics and probiotics. Try and eat a variety of meats, fruits and veggies. Include fermented foods when possible.


Hydrate with water. Dehydration is one of the most common deficiencies I see in practice.


Cut back on processed foods and alcohol. By consuming less processed foods and alcohol you help keep your body's detoxification system working optimally.
